  abstract = "Scientific practices stemming from colonialism, whereby middle-
              and low-income countries supply data for high-income countries
              and the contributions of local expertise are devalued, are still
              prevalent today in the field of palaeontology. In response to
              these unjust practices, countries such as Mexico and Brazil
              adopted protective laws and regulations during the twentieth
              century to preserve their palaeontological heritage. However,
              scientific colonialism is still reflected in many publications
              describing fossil specimens recovered from these countries. Here,
              we present examples of 'palaeontological colonialism' from
              publications on Jurassic-Cretaceous fossils from NE Mexico and NE
              Brazil spanning the last three decades. Common issues that we
              identified in these publications are the absence of both
              fieldwork and export permit declarations and the lack of local
              experts among authorships. In Mexico, access to many fossil
              specimens is restricted on account of these specimens being
              housed in private collections, whereas a high number of studies
              on Brazilian fossils are based on specimens illegally reposited
              in foreign collections, particularly in Germany and Japan.
              Finally, we outline and discuss the wider academic and social
              impacts of these research practices, and propose exhaustive
              recommendations to scientists, journals, museums, research
              institutions and government and funding agencies in order to
              overcome these practices.",

               to South America, and until now, the unique proboscidean taxon
               recognized in Brazil, representing one of the most important
               herbivorous megamammals present in the Brazilian Intertropical
               Region (BIR). The aim of this study was to analyze $\delta$13C
               and $\delta$18O isotopic signatures from samples from two dentin
               incremental layers of an individual tusk from the Sousa
               municipality (Para{\'\i}ba State, Brazil), in order to infer
               diet, niche breadth, and paleoenvironment. Radiocarbon dating
               suggests that the studied individual lived in the Last Glacial
               Maximum age (24,190--24,567 Cal yr BP), and probably had a
               mixed-feeder diet with slightly higher consumption of C3 plants
               ($\delta$13C = −7.5 $\pm$ 0.2‰, pi = 68\%) during two years of
               its life. We suggest a generalist habit (BA = 0.83) for this
               individual, similar to the results found for this species in
               other BIR locations. In addition, we suggest that the individual
               from Sousa/PB lived in a wetter environment ($\delta$18O = 27.2
               $\pm$ 0.5‰) when compared to other localities in the BIR.",

               Grande que utiliza dos conhecimentos sistematizados pela

               caminhos frente aos problemas concretos da comunidade de Nova
               Olinda, Chapada do Araripe, Brasil. Essa comunidade atrav{\'e}s
               de suas crian{\c c}as, p{\^o}de legitimar a heran{\c c}a do
               patrim{\^o}nio arqueol{\'o}gico como guardi{\~a}s da mem{\'o}ria
               local, construindo cidadania e dignificando suas pr{\'o}prias
               vidas. Essas heran{\c c}as revividas, foram recriadas e
               retransmitidas pelas pr{\'o}prias crian{\c c}as na constru{\c
               c}{\~a}o da cidadania: Inventariando, conhecendo, preservando,
               partilhando e divulgando os antigos e novos saberes. Com essa
               experi{\^e}ncia, p{\^o}de-se ainda inferir que a arqueologia
               deve sim, proporcionar e desenvolver os interesses
               cient{\'\i}ficos e sociais de produ{\c c}{\~a}o de conhecimento
               sobre a heran{\c c}a cultural numa pequena comunidade,inserida
               em um macro contexto arqueol{\'o}gico, como a Chapada do Araripe
               e o Nordeste do Brasil. Neste processo de entrega do
               patrim{\^o}nio cultural {\`a} contemporaneidade a arqueologia
               inscreve um potencial fundamental de desenvolvimento de uma
               Arqueologia Social Inclusiva, embasada numa experi{\^e}ncia
               concreta, mas ao mesmo tempo intang{\'\i}vel de reafirma{\c
               c}{\~a}o de identidade.",
